Lesley Heller Gallery is situated on the ground floor
of a charming 19th century townhouse in Manhattan’s Upper East
Side. This intimate, domestic setting, reminiscent of the salons
of pre-war Europe, is ideal for viewing art, readings, discussions,
and performances.
Lesley Heller’s extensive career includes
founding and directing The Work Space, a non profit gallery in SOHO
for ten years. The
Work Space incorporated established and emerging artists in six thematic
exhibitions annually.
Lesley Heller Gallery primarily features the
compelling and noteworthy work of mid-career artists who have not
exhibited recently in New York City. Their work will be reintroduced
to the art viewing public through a series of exhibitions, installations,
and conversations.
“Mid-career artists are an exciting and undervalued area for
collectors to focus on,” says Heller. “My mission with
this new undertaking is to expose these artists to critics, curators,
collectors, and other artists in a relaxed environment.”
The
gallery programs two to three solo exhibitions simultaneously in
addition to seasonal group shows. In an effort to further engage
the art viewing public, the gallery makes video interviews of each
artist discussing his or her work. This video is available on the
gallery website by clicking on “meet the artist” link
for each exhibition. Another of the gallery’s unique programs
is its “artist forum evening,” where the exhibiting artists
engage the guests in a lively discussion of their work. The forums
are intended to create a dialogue about art and culture between collectors,
curators, artists and critics; a rare undertaking in a commercial
gallery setting. |
